What's Zoom Chi?

Zoom Chi is shorthand for practicing Tai Chi and Qigong with other people on Zoom, the online meeting platform that took the world by storm during the pandemic.

How does it work?

An instructor hosts a meeting on their Zoom account, and participants join the meeting from all over the world. The instructor then leads the group through a “virtual’” Tai Chi class.

Is Zoom Chi the same as going to a real Tai Chi class?

Zoom Chi has some drawbacks. Technical difficulties can interrupt the flow of the class. Some participants lack sufficient space to practice and be visible on their camera. And of course, there is no substitute for learning and practicing Tai Chi in four dimensions with other people and a real live instructor.

Why bother with Zoom Chi then?

Not everyone has access to local high-quality Tai Chi instruction, and for health reasons some participants can’t safely be part of a large group. Zoom Chi allows participants from all over the world and of all capabilities to deepen their Tai Chi practice from the comfort of their own home. Also, the classes can be recorded and shared for continued practice after class, allowing participants to review favorite or challenging movements.
